Module 3 – Essay Post, Five Word Feedback, and Check-In

“Describe your experience with a brand or product that you were an active advocate or positive voice for. Something that you recommended to friends and family. Or, maybe it was a negative experience you want to share that still effects your opinion of that company.

How would you engage about this experience through the four uses of blogs for marketing and PR?”

Four uses of blogs for PR and marketing:
1. Easily monitor what millions of people are saying about you, the market you sell into, your organization, and its products
2. Participate in those conversations by commenting on other people’s blogs
3. To work with bloggers who write about your industry, company, or products.
4. To begin to shape those conversations by creating and writing your own blog.

I had a great experience with the
North Olympic Library System – NOLS.
I frequently use the meeting rooms at their libraries for Cloud Cover
Community Meetings.

NOLS offers room reservations at no cost to non-profit and community groups. They use an online booking system that shows what dates and times are available. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance.

The room comes with several tables and chairs, a whiteboard, sink, and large flat-screen HDTV with HDMI and wireless input. I can easily connect my laptop to the TV as a display to share my work with others.

The library staff have been super helpful! Different individuals have assisted me with understanding policy and paperwork, navigation, room reservation, connecting to the Wi-Fi and TV, and even helping me after hours!

I had reservation on Dec 25th for a Holiday Hangout. The library would be closed all day the 24th and 25th, but still offered room reservations. They have an ‘access pouch’ (I’m not sure what it’s called) that can be checked out. It has a key to the front door, a strap to keep the door unlocked, an alarm code to disarm, a dry-erase marker, and info sheet to fill out, and instructions.

I had *completely* forgotten to pick up an ‘access pouch’ before the library closed on the 23rd. I remembered the morning of the 24th… at which point I started to panic. I then looked up the emails for the Sequim branch and the Spaces reservations and sent each a message. I was desperately hoping someone might see one and reply.

I was in luck! One of the staff, Emily Sly, replied and coordinated to meet me at the library just as I got back into town from Seattle. They had their kids in tow and did some wonderful multitasking. They instructed me how to use the ‘access pouch’, the alarm, the door strap and auto-opener, and made sure I could access the meeting room. This was definitely above and beyond, and I’m highly appreciative.

  1. I started by looking at their online presence. Their site had great information on the organization, meetings rooms, and scheduling, and seemed like it had what I needed. I also found their Facebook page. Their page has a rating of 4.7 out of 5, with great reviews.
  1. I haven’t entered any conversations about NOLS on other people’s blogs. I could do this by commenting and asking for input, agreeing or disagreeing, or adding information. I have worked to establish my online presence in other ways.
  1. I could work with other bloggers to better understand blogging and become more comfortable, which leads to my own content creation.
  1. With my own content creation, I can establish an online presence and voice my experiences. This is a great way to have an impact on a brand, product, or company. I could tag them in reviews, let others know what I think, and add to the reputation of NOLS.

SCRUM

  1. Worked to catch up assignments in this class. Still plenty to do!
  2. More catch up but focusing on my other class first.
  3. Time management
  4. Will do!
